Transformative Coaching: Breaking Collective Agreements

A woman wanted to work with me because she wanted to know about her future. Unsure what her friend told her about our work together, I clarified that the future is not fixed and she is the creator of her life.

Many of us agree that we can shape our future, and we think that many things are out of our control. So we look to someone or something for reassurance. We then adjust our behavior and proactivity based on our research.

Whenever we turn to anyone for input, we need to be aware that our choices and hesitancies are influenced by what we pay attention to. The reticular activating system in the brain filters information based on our experiences.

This filtering mechanism in the brain explains why people who witnessed the same event had different recollections of what happened. We notice a particular car everywhere once we start looking into getting a new car.

When we look for answers, it is essential to retrain our attention so that we become more aware of our filters and assumptions. With expanded awareness, we will notice insights and solutions that we previously missed or dismissed.

If we have a filter that governs what we notice or not, getting more information will not give us the answers we seek. We need to update the filter by breaking shared agreements we have taken for granted. Here are a few of them:

  • life is hard
  • no pain, no gain
  • the more the better
  • I’ll believe it when I see it
  • they have to change for me to feel better.

These agreements are widely accepted. It’s like we are in a trance and can’t see how we can break free from our circumstances. If we want to create more enjoyment and prosperity in our lives, we need to break these agreements.

When we update our filters, we find common ground in face of disagreements. We realize it’s not personal, everyone is doing their best given their histories. Because we soften and stop trying so hard, we find solutions more readily.

Mistakes happen, and we are confident that we can work things out. Crises become indicators for course correction. Eventually we see everything serves to wake us up from a deep trance so that we can reclaim our wholeness.

When we expand our awareness, we become more adept at navigating life as a whole human being. This means we do not need to sacrifice certain aspects of ourselves to accentuate other aspects of ourselves.

In the healing arena, we think healing happens when we feel better and can live without problems interfering with our lives. This collective agreement keeps us live on the surface of life, hindering us from owning our innate gifts.

Owning our innate gifts takes place when we learn to embrace the full spectrum of our identity. We might think we are trying to heal a condition. The process actually helps us discover other aspects of ourselves.

When we embrace all aspects of ourselves, healing happens as a byproduct.

Regardless of the reasons clients come to me, the topic of their natural gifts from childhood often comes up. It might be a knowing, a curiosity that the adults had no answer for, or a talent that was forgotten or never nurtured.

At the human level, we think we are trying to heal our bodies or relationships. The soul knows that the healing process is the pathway for us to “retrieve” our innate gifts, which are often forgotten due to grinding of being a human.

From my own journey and those in my circles, healing is a profound journey. As we learn to embrace the light and dark within us, we become adept to witness the broad range of manifestations in the world with presence.

We cultivate a deep sense of safety and belonging, and we stop looking to others to make us feel safe or whole. We become Self-referral and align with our true spirit in how we live.

If we can be with our darkness without fear, we can be with the dissonance in the world without being rattled. The willingness to be present with anything is a commitment to unconditional love, which can transform any condition.

With practice, we notice our upsets lead to insights. Judgement turns into compassion. Anger turns into passion. Anxiety indicates we are coming out of our shells. Our lives get better and better, and we stop settling for less.

When we practice embodying the vibration of love, we become a healing presence for our families and communities. I have the fortune to facilitate healing for individuals and small groups who show me the possibilities.

When one person does the work, their vibration lightens the family dynamics. A few intentional people coming together shift the consciousness of communities with hundreds or thousands, leading to outcomes that serve the common good.

These changes do not take a long time. Can you imagine what the world will be like if only a small percentage of us are open to owning our greatness?

The happenings of the world are calling us to break outdated agreements so that we can be free to tap into the truth. Many of us know a lot intellectually, and we are not aware the transformative power of saying YES to ourselves.

That vibration holds the key to our own healing, awakening, and graceful evolution of humanity. I am looking into developing an offer to support this. Stay tuned!

With Love,

Carmen
