Transformative Coaching: Move from Reactivity to Sovereignty

Many of us identify with our thoughts, which affect how we react to situations. If we practice observing our thoughts with compassion, we will realize we are not at the mercy of life happenings.

Connecting with the inner witness or observer in us increases our bandwidth. When we react to situations, we are in the survival mode. When we are on the lookout for danger, we block the nervous system from accessing our ingenuity.

In that state of reactivity, we perpetuate challenging situations and relationship dynamics that feel like they are out of our control. Despite our well-intentioned efforts, we feel victimized by our circumstances.

The longer and more often we are distressed, the more unresolved emotions are stored in our cells. Diseases then develop in different parts of the body, correlating with specific aspects of our past that we hold onto.

An 80-year old veteran came to me because he was struggling with pain and weakness in his legs. He had a few accidents and was diagnosed with neuropathy. He wanted to be more active but he felt tired.

After our second session, he said he had a transformation. He felt a lot lighter from shedding what had troubled him for a long time. This shedding allowed his energy to increase, and the neuropathy didn’t bother him as much.

He thanked me a thousand times, but he was the one who had to witness the stirrings that needed reconciliation. For him to feel better, he knew he had to let go. His courage and commitment expedited his own healing process.

When we are on edge, we hold onto “stuff” even though we know we need to let them go. With the space I offered, my client was able to observe and release the energy related to genocidal traumas from at least two generations back.

Aside from traumas and unresolved emotions, physical symptoms also show up when we are upleveling or taking on new challenges. The intelligence of our body uses physical symptoms to help us work though our doubt and anxiety.

Feeling anxious is like hatching because something new is being birthed. The common reaction is to avoid the challenge or focus on quelling the anxiety. We might feel better but we miss the opportunity to further develop ourselves.

Alternatively, if we observe how the anxious energy feels in the body and then breath into the area with compassion, we transform the anxious energy so that it can help us heal and increase our bandwidth to support our new endeavors.

The more we live in the head, the less connected we are with the body. The noisy chatter in the mind often drowns out the inner witness. We then react based on limited perception instead of thinking outside of the box.

I remember feeling disappointed when the lab reports showed no significant progress despite my efforts to heal the tumors holistically. I had let the ultrasound reports define my progress and neglected how I felt in my body.

With the help of my inner witness, I noticed nuances in my body. I remembered the tumors felt less obtrusive and I felt lighter. The same clothes fit differently on me. I had to train my mind to pay attention to the signals from my body.

One day, it dawned on me that the ultrasound focused on very dense frequencies. My inner witness was picking up subtle energetic shifts, indicating the tumors were shrinking before the equipment could register the change.

That insight has influenced my work in profound ways. It became clear to me on how I can facilitate energetic shifts for clients to improve diagnoses, prognoses or other cases associated with impending conditions.

Everything is energy before it becomes an idea, a diagnosis or a thing. This means energetic shifts happen before physical changes. Making changes at the physical level takes longer because physical matters are dense.

Emotion is energy in motion. An effective way to usher in changes we desire is to work with our emotions. By compassionately observing the emotions related to the change, we are shifting the energy to support our desires.

There are many things in life that can upset us. We like to look for more information to help us figure it out. Information, however, does not lead to transformation. Sustainable change begins by working with our resistance.

Our reactions are different forms of resistance. When our reactivity has become a habit, we don’t even catch ourselves. We think that it is normal because everyone around us is behaving the same way.

We cannot be our sovereign self when we keep resisting life happenings. Energy doesn’t flow well, and life will feel confined or like an uphill battle. Any effort we make is discounted, and the result does not last.

We run into similar challenges with different “faces.” One health issue is resolved and another one will pop up. We leave a relationship or job and find ourselves facing similar challenging dynamics with the new.

These patterns repeat because we have not addressed the fundamental cause — not owning our sovereign self. Ultimately, everything we shy away from is a call to remember and honor our magnificence.

By working with our inner witness, we realize we are so much more than our thoughts and feelings. Observing our inner landscape creates more space within, allowing us to widen our lens.

Accepting ourselves and others becomes easier. We can work with our triggers and come up with multifaceted solutions instead of focusing only on the pain point. Our presence creates a safe haven for others to explore their edge.

We don’t need to wait for situations to change for us to feel better. We don’t have to be up against the wall before saying yes to ourselves. We must honor ourselves enough to believe we deserve a life that gets better and better.

If you have been running on a hamster wheel, it is harder to change because your state of being is wired to react to stimuli, not tapping into your sovereign self.  Contact me and see how I can support you to break the pattern.

With Love,

Carmen
