The high hopes for this new year seem especially prominent. For those of us who had lots of challenges last year, we are eager to leave the past behind and let the energy of the new year move us to greener pastures.
We cannot truly renew if we refuse to expand our sense of self. Ironically, reconnecting with the older parts of ourselves often brings greater clarity, strength and wisdom that contribute to a better future.
Many of us spend many years healing traumas and distresses from the past. When we keep focus on healing, we are essentially asking the Universe to give us more things to heal. Our thoughts and attention are that powerful!
When we shift the focus from healing traumas to reclaiming our ancestral gifts, we tap into something bigger. In embodying the vibrational gifts of our ancestors, life takes on a new meaning. We engage with life on a whole new level.
I am working with an old friend who had fatigue, brain fog and pain after her surgery. She was also dwarfed by the “big energy” from her husband and son. Unexpectedly, her ancestors came forth to support her during our sessions.
Instead of focusing on recent issues, we went back to reconfigure the energy from the traumatic birth of her son ten years ago. We strengthened her system as we made reconciliation with past hurts and wrongs in her lineage.
Instead of feeling anxious or depressed, she is now more energized and focused. Her husband responds better to her needs. Despite her sensitivity, she finds new strength to look into current affairs related to social justice.
The energy in her sessions felt like a collaboration with her ancestors. It was an opportunity for everyone in her lineage to complete what they couldn’t before. This in turn frees my friend up to live her life anew.
Support from our ancestors also shows up in our day-to-day lives. They might give us a gentle nudge or reveal their messages through coincidences.
I recently came across a beautiful apartment in a prime location. The price is comparable to the usual place I stay when I visit my parents overseas. In my excitement, a quiet voice said: this is the same building where my aunt was.
My aunt passed away about ten years ago. She had been ill for over 40 years. Her condition was an enigma and has caused lots of hardships in the family.
Before she passed, I did a lot of forgiveness and reconciliation work around her situation. I also cleared the energy of her home to support its sale and well-being of the new owner. To me, this chapter is closed.
When the voice told me about the beautiful apartment on Airbnb, it felt like I was standing on a precipice to make a decision: will I abdicate because I am haunted by the past or will I let myself be supported to experience a new possibility?
This beautiful apartment clashes against the mental construct my family and I had of my aunt’s place. The idea of “too good to be true” also came up. There was a lot of anxiety and resistance, doubting the legitimacy of this rental.
After a deep inquiry, I calmed down and decided that this is an opportunity to clear the old construct and embrace the new. It is important for me to stay there so that I can find out why I am being led back to the same building.
So often we want something new and amazing for ourselves, but we do not have the constitution for them. The gap between where we are and what we want is so big that it creates cognitive dissonance.
To close the gap, we need to change our relationship with the pain triggered by our past so that we can develop new lenses and capacities. Otherwise we will walk away from the very thing we desire because we can’t see beyond the pain.
The new year and the stars may be very supportive of our endeavors. We can close the gap wholeheartedly or let situations push us to the point where we buckle over. Our choices will determine how we experience this year.
In wishing you a magnificent year anchored with grounded presence, I want to share with you this poem from The Spirit of the Glacier Speaks by Arkan Lushwala.
I open my mind like a flower
And let the bees do their work.
I open my mind for the sun to enter
And learn to receive my thoughts.
I open my mind like a flower,
And let the hummingbirds gather the nectar.
I open my heart so the Earth may enter,
And like a blind mole burrowing,
I feel the paths I cannot see.
With Love,
Carmen
